BOOK NOW!
This 950 sq. foot 2
bedroom 1 bath cozy and comfortable cottage was completed
in late 2004. Perfect for just one or a family of 6. You’ll
feel like it’s your very own mountain cabin with all
it’s creature comforts and top of the line appliances.
It’s beautifully furnished yet you’ll feel comfortable
right away.
Located about 1 mile from the Donner Lake
exit on Hwy 80 in Truckee, you’ll enjoy easy access
to the very best of the area. Donner Lake is footsteps away.
How many footsteps?
From the front door to the lake, about 75 of ‘em. Is
there a view? You betcha! A memorable lake view. From the
deck and from the interior well placed windows. And if you
look beyond the lake, you’ll see mountains and pines.
Lot of pines. Lots of fresh air. Lots of blue sky. Is it
quiet? Very. With the setback from the road you won’t
hear a thing. And it’s far enough from the freeway
so you can hear the pines, not rubber meeting the road.

Kids 6 and under are free. Remember, these are all private
facilities and only accessible with my guest pass.
And just
how far is all this from the cottage? The furthest
distance is 4 miles to the equestrian center! Not bad.
Of
course, there are many other golf courses nearby. You
can take a paddlewheel boat ride on nearby Lake Tahoe (18
miles) or go out on a 40 ‘ sailing catamaran.
You can
take the Squaw Valley tram (12 miles) and go to the top to
enjoy incredible views, super hiking trails, poolside
dining, world class shops and restaurants.
Then there is Donner
Lake itself. The entrance to the park is less than
a mile away. You can water ski, fish, boat, relax
and enjoy. Forested with lodgepole, Jeffery pine and white
fir. Because of it’s elevation, there is no poison
oak. It is home to deer, squirrels, chipmunks, porcupines,
raccoons, beaver, and a wide variety of birds. Fishing is
not usually spectacular, though there are trout and kokanee
in the lake. The lake is planted with catchable trout and
a fishing license is required.
In and around the park you
can see some of the Sierra Nevada's geologic history. The
granite rose within the crust of the
earth in enormous bubbles, then cooled
and hardened to be exposed by erosion. The older sedimentary rocks were then
transformed by temperature and pressure. The Sierra's steep eastern face, the
barrier that faced the Donner Party and other California emigrants, were created
when gigantic upheavals tilted a section of the earth's crust as if it were
a door with its hinge on the western edge. The glaciers that
dominated the area
a few thousand years ago have left their traces too, the huge boulders and
other debris that remained when the ice melted, scattered
as if by a giant hand.
The
park has about 2.5 miles (4 km.) of hiking trails, and more
enthusiastic hikers can also explore the neighboring Tahoe
National Forest.
If you want fine
dining, there are some super
restaurants in Truckee, along
with
charming shops and a unique historical town feel.
Nightlife? Head to Reno, which
is only 30 minutes away or enjoy the casinos in Incline Village,
about 25 minutes away.
AND IN THE WINTER
How far is everything? Well, not every thing! But in the winter, Sugar Bowl, Northstar, Tahoe Donner, Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows, Boreal and Royal Gorge are all from 3 minutes to 20 minutes away. If you wish to travel a bit, you can go to Mt. Rose and that will take you 45 minutes.
Snowshoeing? Sure, go to Cold Stream or Donner State Park and it’s all of 3⁄4 of a mile down the road.
X-country Skiing – head to Cold Stream or Donner State Park. Or World Famous Royal Gorge, about 12 minutes away. Or almost world famous Tahoe Donner which is about 4.5 miles from here.
Sledding. Try Kingsvale or Tahoe Donner. They have a great sledding area.
Best beginner family ski area award goes to Tahoe Donner. Their ski hill is family friendly and a great place to learn skiing or snowboarding. Again, it’s all of 4.5 miles from here.
Or, if you don’t want to do anything, then
just hang out in comfort.
