are daily and pee wee tennis clinics on saturdays for kids
4-6.
Wait. There is
more! We’re not done yet. Let’s
not forget the 3 swimming pools, including 3 lane lap pool.
Fitness room. Yoga. Pilates. Water aerobics. Wading pool.

Volleyball courts. Can you believe all this? It’s true!
Now a small fee applies to use these facilities, $7 per person.
Kids 6 and under are free. Remember, these are all private
facilities and only accessible with my guest pass.
And just
how far is all this from the cottage? The furthest
distance is 4 miles to the equestrian center! Not bad.
Of
course, there are many other golf courses nearby. You
can take a paddlewheel boat ride on nearby Lake Tahoe (18
miles) or go out on a 40 ‘ sailing catamaran.
You can
take the Squaw Valley tram (12 miles) and go to the top to
enjoy incredible views, super hiking trails, poolside
dining, world class shops and restaurants.
Then there is Donner
Lake itself. The entrance to the park is less than
a mile away. You can water ski, fish, boat, relax
and enjoy. Forested with lodgepole, Jeffery pine and white
fir. Because of it’s elevation, there is no poison
oak. It is home to deer, squirrels, chipmunks, porcupines,
raccoons, beaver, and a wide variety of birds. Fishing is
not usually spectacular, though there are trout and kokanee
in the lake. The lake is planted with catchable trout and
a fishing license is required.
In and around the park you
can see some of the Sierra Nevada's geologic history. The
granite rose within the crust of the
earth in enormous bubbles, then cooled
and hardened to be exposed by erosion. The older sedimentary rocks were then
transformed by temperature and pressure. The Sierra's steep eastern face, the
barrier that faced the Donner Party and other California emigrants, were created
when gigantic upheavals tilted a section of the earth's crust as if it were
a door with its hinge on the western edge. The glaciers that
dominated the area
a few thousand years ago have left their traces too, the huge boulders and
other debris that remained when the ice melted, scattered
as if by a giant hand.
The
park has about 2.5 miles (4 km.) of hiking trails, and more
enthusiastic hikers can also explore the neighboring Tahoe
National Forest.
If you want fine
dining, there are some super
restaurants in Truckee, along
with
charming shops and a unique historical town feel.
Nightlife? Head to Reno, which
is only 30 minutes away or enjoy the casinos in Incline Village,
about 25 minutes away.
